I should explain what I mean before words like lies, half-truths, slanderous, gutter politics, a new low (all much used in the current campaign) are levelled at me.
I don’t accuse all No voters of wanting to leave the EU. Many support membership, but not the Lisbon Treaty. I can have a good, and mutually respectful, discussion but them because there is no hidden agenda between us.
For a lot of the leaders it’s another story:
Many have a record of opposing every treaty including the original Treaty of Accession when Ireland joined the EEC. They have given few indications that they have changed their minds since.
Some display a strong distaste and distrust of the EU and the other member states – treating it as something alien, distant and foreign.
A lot of the No arguments are not arguments against the Treaty as such. Logically they are arguments against the EU itself.
More details later.END
